Beneath their apparent versatility is a great underlying talent. The Band usually features 11 members that provide the full instrumentation (piano/keyboard, bass, guitar, percussion, woodwinds, and brass). Depending on the occasion, it can be expanded to as many as fifteen members. Five of the members are also talented vocalists who sing lead and provide back-up harmonies.The sophisticated light and sound systems are directed by a technician to ensure the appropriate volume level and ambiance at all times.

At the heart of The Janis Nowlan Band is Janis Nowlan herself. A talented pianist, vocalist and composer, Janis finds an instant rapport with an audience through her instinctive warmth and understanding. Singer/composer Peter Allen has commented that "Janis complements my music better than anyone." Coupled with her training in classical piano, Janis brings an unusual depth and imagination to the music she performs. She earned a Bachelor's degree in music from the University of Rhode Island, and has toured England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales where she sang at the International Song Festival. Other tours have taken her to Singapore and Bangkok. Janis' most recent performance as a solo classical pianist took place in world renowned Steinway Hall in New York City. She has given several performances on WGBH Public Radio in Boston, and has recorded three albums, two of which were produced and accompanied by Grammy Award winning artist Danny Davis. Her third and most recent album was recorded during a live performance on Cape Cod. Whether playing the classics, leading her Band, or working with clients, Janis strives for perfection; a perfection that is reflected in every event she performs.
